EPA-Approved Products Expected to be Effective Against the Novel Coronavirus

Article Updated: June 15, 2021

As health and safety organizations continue to closely monitor the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), many have asked if Stepan has many U.S. EPA-approved registrations eligible for environmental infectious control of COVID-19 under the U.S. EPA's emerging viral pathogen guidance.

Stepan does offer 28 U.S. EPA-registered end use formulations that meet the criteria for applications against emerging viral pathogens, and therefore may be considered for use as hard surface disinfectants against SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes the disease COVID-19.

Subregistrants with a pre-qualified emerging viral pathogen claim can include a defined efficacy statement off-label in technical literature, non-label-related, websites, consumer information services, and social media sites, in accordance with the U.S. EPA's policy.

Along with a dedicated biocide team, we have a comprehensive portfolio of over 80 U.S. EPA-approved end use formulations that sanitize and disinfect in a wide variety of applications, including household and institutional cleaning, water treatment, oilfield and wood preservation.
